Why Attend Our Church?

There are different reasons why a person might attend a particular church.

Some attend a church out of tradition. "I have always attended here. My parents attended here. So I will attend here."

Others attend a church because it is close by, perhaps in the same village, town or city, or within easy driving distance. The key word is "convenience."

Others attend a church because the people are friendly and their friends are there, and they "feel comfortable" there.

Others attend a church because they find the people there to be loving, and love, after all, is the very essence of church, isn't it?

Others attend a church because there are fun programmes for the children and young people, and the worship and talks are entertaining.

Others attend a church because they believe that their church is spiritual.

But none of those reasons are the real reason why you should be a member of a church. Some of those factors are important, others are irrelevant.

The most important criterion for judging a church is the teaching of that church. Is there teaching? Is that teaching sound? Will that teaching build you and your family up so that you will "grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ" (II Peter 3:18). Will the pastor there explain the Scriptures and apply them? If a church only offers empty fluff, or worse, false teaching, then no Christian may attend or support such a church. The people may be friendly; the pastor might have a wonderful personality; the worship might be lively, but without the preaching of the truth there is no church there.

The church is "the pillar and ground of the truth" (I Tim. 3:15). The local church has the calling to hold up the truth in the midst of a dark world, and that holding up the truth must begin with the members and their chidren. If the members know next to nothing about the Bible, how can they explain it anyone else?

At the Limerick Reformed Fellowship our pastor preaches Biblical, expository, doctrinal sermons. And he teaches our children Biblical catechism lessons. Our worship is above all Biblical, and because it is Biblical, it is reverent. Biblical teaching produces by the grace of God obedient, thankful, loving believers. We come to hear the preaching because we need it. And we believe that preaching of the truth is the crying need of the hour.

We welcome all visitors. We invite you to come to hear the Word of God. And we welcome questions.

You will find us in Limerick City Centre in Coradh na Gaelige Hall, 18 Thomas Street. We meet at 11 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Sundays. Click here for more details. We look forward to seeing you.
