The Real St Patrick

Date: Friday, 12 March 2010
Time: 7.30 PM
Venue: Conradh na Gaeilge Hall, Limerick
Speaker: Rev. Angus Stewart, CPRC

Note: The audio of this lecture, as well as a written article, are now available.

Description:

St Patrick, patron saint of Ireland, is commonly depicted as a Roman Catholic bishop and is widely thought to have brought Catholicism to Ireland. In popular folklore he is believed to have worked several miracles; notable among them the banishing of serpents from the island.

But who is the real person behind the mythology and what did he believe in?

Most importantly, what kind of gospel did he preach - a gospel of works salvation, or a gospel of salvation by grace alone?

Further questions that will be answered:

  • Was Patrick Irish? When did he live?
  • Were there believers in Ireland before Patrick?
  • Was Patrick assured of his salvation?
  • Did Patrick have papal connections?
  • Did Patrick write that he was “predestined to proclaim the gospel”?

A book table (including CDs, DVDs, tapes, free pamphlets, etc.) and a cup of tea are available after the lecture.

If you are planning on attending, feel free to let us know via Facebook!
